Gap Analysis

Disaster Recovery is a business risk, not an IT risk.

Does your Executive Leadership understand that there is no magic failover switch? Axiom Recovery starts with a Business Impact Analysis (BIA) but goes further to document your current IT recovery Service Level Agreements to ensure the organization mission… is the heart of an effective Disaster Recovery Program. Our BIA lays the foundation for your DR Program’s success by placing the responsibility for Disaster Recovery where it belongs—with your company’s Business Leadership. We then work with both your IT and Business Leadership to accomplish the following:

Identify Objectives

In undertaking a Business Impact Analysis, we first interview your company’s business team to identify their Disaster Recovery objectives, assisting them in defining the most essential recovery goals for protecting the financial and operational viability of your company.

Develop SLAs

Next, we work with your IT staff to develop realistic Recovery Services Level Agreements (SLAs), walking you through a user-friendly workbook that takes into account hidden obstacles, time-consuming tasks, and intricate network interdependencies.

Uncover Gaps

Once we gather this data, we analyze it to uncover any gaps between the identified business requirements and your proposed IT service levels. Then we review these gaps you’re your business team in order to gauge the gaps’ severity and potential impact.

Present to Leadership

Finally,  we assemble all of the above into a simple, visually compelling, and easy-to-understand presentation that recaps the BIA’s findings and recommendations in a way that makes your proposed Disaster Recovery Program as persuasive, even indispensable as possible.

Axiom Recovery’s BUSINESS IMPACT ANALYSIS includes exclusive DR planning methodology, builds on highly time-efficient workshops and Microsoft Office-based tools and templates, transforms complex Disaster Recovery planning into a highly manageable process—while helping you to secure the buy-in and support that you need from Business Leadership.

DR Architecture & Strategy

Because adequately documenting your IT infrastructure is a daunting task.

When a disaster puts your IT infrastructure in jeopardy, you may have only minutes to respond in order to keep your company online and active. Meeting this challenge requires careful and detailed architectural planning up front—along with an effective alternate-site strategy should the relocation of your IT operations become necessary. We assist you in achieving these goals through these steps:

We work with your company’s business team to determine how fast your critical software applications need to be back online in the event of a disaster. Then we assist your IT staff in:  identifying data and network components required for each application to function; prioritizing applications in terms of business criticality; and placing all applications and data in their appropriate recovery tiers.

For some DR contingencies, it may not be possible to immediately restore applications and data in their current physical location, requiring you to route some or all of your IT operations to a physically alternate site. We help you to compare the feasible “ping, power, and pipe” alternatives on an apples-to-apples basis, breaking through the oftentimes confusing fog of vendor service-bundling and pricing policies to help you understand the true cost of the available options.

Once your applications are prioritized, we work closely with your IT staff to record these decisions in a comprehensive IT architecture document. Our step-by-step Architecture Workbook greatly simplifies the documentation process by segmenting often overwhelmingly complex IT architectures into comprehensible application and data units. NEED A LITTLE MORE CONTENT.

Finally, we help you to:  translate your DR architecture and strategy into concepts and terminology that Business Leadership can understand;  spell out the business case for your architectural and alternate-site recommendations; and prepare you to present your strategy to Business Leadership in the clearest and most convincing manner possible.

Because Axiom Recovery takes no money from individual technology vendors, we can maintain a no-agenda objectivity that allows us to present you with a slate of frank and reasoned options. In so doing, we enable you to create the most resilient and cost-effective IT architecture and alternate-site strategy possible for any conceivable disaster.

Plan Development

Because spare time disappeared with the 90s.

The extensive work undertaken in preparing a Business Impact Analysis and/or DR Architecture and Strategy acquires its full value—particularly in time of disaster—when it is codified into a set of formal Disaster Recovery Plans. We help you to develop the required DR Plans in the following manner:

DR Plan Templates

We work with you to develop one or more in-depth DR Plan templates customized to your needs, specifications, and IT operations, which will be used to transfer recovery-planning tasks and procedures from your staff’s minds onto the printed page. Moreover, because our 25 years’ experience in the DR industry gives us an instinctive understanding of Disaster Recovery best practices, we can produce these custom templates with a minimum of your time—often as little as a 30-minute interview.

Development Planning

We assist you in identifying a pre-determined number of plan units (such as Network, Servers, Database, Application X, etc.) to simplify the plan-development process, and help you to select the optimal staff to lead the development of each of the individual plans. At the same time, we create customize sample content, geared to your particular situation, that will aid your staff in writing their DR Plans when the time comes.

Working Sessions

Populating your DR Plan templates with the necessary content requires no time-consuming advanced preparation on your part, nor is your staff forced to struggle with filling in the templates on their own following a brief training class. Rather, we hold one or more highly time-efficient working sessions in which we sit right next to your assigned staff members, walk them through the templates and sample content, and actually start them writing. In fact, staff members typically have as much as half or more of their plans completed before they even leave the room.

Knowledge Transfer

In addition to giving your staff a jumpstart on their DR Plans, the working sessions are designed to achieve the necessary knowledge transfer so that your teams can update and maintain their DR plans on their own—without our ongoing presence. However, for those organizations that lack the time or resources to carry out this work, we are available to take on as many or as few plan-maintenance responsibilities as you wish.

Whether you’re developing formal DR Plans for safeguarding your company’s IT infrastructure and operations in the event of disaster, or simply working to satisfy regulatory-compliance mandates, Axiom Recovery’s plan-development methodology—including our customized templates, tools, and sample content—help you to complete this work quickly, easily, and with minimum demands on your executives’ and staff’s time.

Tests And Exercises

Because you need to know your DR Plans will work.

Once you’ve developed your DR Plans and strategies, it is imperative that you test and exercise them in order to ensure proof of concept and your ability to execute. We assist you in carrying out these critical efforts in the following ways:

We work with you to design the format and scenarios for your tests and/or exercises—with options ranging from advanced Table Top exercises to a complete rebuild on fresh hardware—then identify the metrics against which the success  will be measured.

On the day of the test or exercise, we work with you to conduct the event, focusing on activities and guidance that sharpen your staff’s recovery skills and reinforce your employees’ personal ownership of their units’ recovery strategy and documentation.

Once the tests and/or exercises are designed, we advise you on a wide range of logistical issues, including location, participants, instructional materials, and other pre-event preparations. This ensures the test or exercise runs as smooth as possible.

Following the completion of the test and/or exercise, we provide a written assessment, highlighting key observations, opportunities for process improvements, and overall execution success in order to help you to refine and strengthen your DR Plans and recovery processes.

Just as in sports, so it is with Disaster Recovery: you play like you practice. Effective DR preparation for times of disaster starts with the development of detailed plans and strategies, but that preparation does not end until these plans and strategies have been thoroughly tested and exercised on the playing field of a realistic disaster scenario.

What can Axiom Recovery do for you?

When your DR Program is built around the critical needs of the business, and business is involved in DR decisions, everyone becomes more committed to the shared goal of protecting the organization and its mission through an effective DR Program.
